Chelsea endured a relentless Bayern Munich onslaught to win their first ever Champions League trophy, fighting back after Bayern had taken the lead with just minutes of normal time remaining.

Showing up in their eleventh European final, Bayern took the initiative and pretty much monopolised it for the majority of the game. But, profligacy and a staunch Chelsea defense meant they were having trouble sticking the ball into the back of the net as they would see their shots blocked, wave after wave of attack.

It remained scoreless until the 83rd minute when Tomas Muller arrived out of nowhere to head Bayern Munich into the lead, and the Bayern fans were now beginning to see the finsh line.

But with just two minutes remaining, Didier Drogba’s powerful header found the back of the net and forced the game into extra-time and eventually to penalties, where surprisingly, the Germans could not hold their nerve and Chelsea strolled out of Munich champions of Europe.

It would be the crowning moment for any coach, it has been a hard, long season and your team has just been confirmed as the champions of your league, it is enough to bring a girly smile to the face of even the most macho man in the game.

Unless you are the Shaktar Donetsk coach! Mircea Lucescu was drenched by a couple of his players after they had begun celebrating winning the Ukrainian championship, but the coach just stood stone-faced, visibly peed at the fact that a couple of unruly chaps had just doused him, possibly afraid that his wife will be upset.

Manchester United defeated Swansea at home to keep their faint title hopes alive, pulling level with Man City on 86 points after City earlier beat Newcastle away from home.

Going into the match, Man United’s players knew they had to score a hat-full in order to replace City at the top of the Barclays Premier League, but two first half goals was all United could manage, in a game where they could easily have scored five.

Manchester City defeated Newcastle away from home to inch closer to their first top flight title in forty four years, and fulfilling Mancini’s promise of bringing trophies to the blue side of Manchester.

Going into what was touted to be a tough match for Man City, Yaya Toure scored a brace that ensured the title will be theirs if City win their final game, and Manchester United fail to better their result by nine goals.

Cologne fans have had a torrid season to endure, a season which culminated in them getting relegated from the Bundesliga and the fans really took it hard, setting fire to their stadium after it was confirmed that they had been relegated.

Cologne had looked likely to stave off relegation- going into the final round of games one point above Hertha Berlin, but a 3-1 Hertha win over Hoffenheim coupled with Cologne’s 1-4 defeat by Bayern Munich at home, meant Cologne failed to beat the drop.

In protest, Cologne’s fans set fire to the RheinEnergieStadion, bringing a close to the match and a close to Cologne top flight status.

Under fire Fiorentina coach Delio Rossi, attacked one of his players during a match against relegation rivals Novara on Wednesday.

The incident occurred just 32 minutes into the match, when Rossi had decided to haul off midfielder Adem Ljajic while they were 2-0 down.

Ljajic being unhappy with the decision, apparently said something that drew the managers’ ire and prompted the attack that had members of the Fiorentina staff trying to pull the two apart.

Injured Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic, had a funny moment at the Etihad recently, when in an attempt to retrieve something that fell, inadvertently headbutted a metal rail.

This would have left mere mortals such as us holding our foreheads in agony and perhaps we would even attempt to get an ice-pack but, not Nemanja, he actually apologized to the metal rail for the pain he put it through!

In what is bound to be regarded as one of the most astonishing nights in football, Chelsea went into the Nou Camp and came out victorious when the odds were stacked firmly in Barcelona’s favour.

Having the cushion of a 1-0 victory to take to the Nou Camp, Chelsea had lost that advantage when Sergio Busquets strike brought about parity in the 35th minute but, if you thought it was a straightforward tie after that you would have been sadly mistaken.

First, John Terry got sent off for a stupid foul on Alexis Sanchez just a minute after Busquets’ goal, then Andres Iniesta struck just a minute before half-time to put Chelsea in deep, deep trouble but, a lovely chip by Ramires after he was sent clear by Lampard swung the tie back into Chelsea’s favour, right on the stroke of half-time.

The second half started much the same way that the first half went, with Barca probing and knocking, trying to pry the Chelsea defense open and were rewarded when Drogba fouled Cesc Fabregas to give Barcelona the chance to forge ahead on aggregate but, a visibly off form Lionel Messi hit the woodwork, leaving Chelsea’s fans to breathe a collective sigh of relief.

For the remainder of the match, Barca probed and tried but could not find a way past the blues defense and in a moment of brilliance, the badly under performing Fernando Torres, who had replaced Didier Drogba just minutes earlier, rounded Victor Valdez to slot home, minutes into injury time and send Barcelona crashing out of the Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo moved on step closer to dispelling claims that he doesn’t show up in the big games, after he scored the winning goal in ‘El Classico’ to move Real five points clear at the Primera Liga summit.

Barcelona started in typical fashion, dominating possession but it was Madrid that took the lead after Sami Khedira pounced on a Carles Puyol mistake in the 17th minute, stabbing home from close range.

Real Madrid frustrated Barcelona for the rest of the half, with Iker Casillas almost falling asleep in goal as a result of a lack of penetrating play that the Catalans are known for.

It would then take a substitution by Guardiola to finally breach the Madrid defence, and it was another scrappy goal after Barcelona had already had three bites of the cherry, Alexis Sanchez directed the ball home after a string of saves by Casillas. But, just as they were given hope, the man always slated for not being a big game player, ruthlessly snuffed out all hope, taking a touch before beating Valdez at his near post after he was sent clear by an Ozil through-ball.

Amidst all the chaos and the backlash aimed at Martin Atkinson and FIFA- the governing body for world football, for having not already implemented goal-line technology, a new photo has emerged suggesting that the referee did in fact make the right decision in awarding Chelsea a goal during their FA Cup match with Tottenham.

Caution must however be observed, as it is still slightly inconclusive as to whether or not the ball had crossed the line, because of the angle of the photo and even if it did not, the photo suggests as well, that it was closer to being a goal than most people first thought.

With all that being said though, do you think people will now stop calling for Sepp Blatter’s head on a platter? No, didn’t think so either!
